Anti Aging: Truth About Botox “Cream”

True or False?

Topical “Wrinkle Relaxers” vs. Botox and Dysport

“Muscles below the skin cause expression-related wrinkles, and there’s no topical product out there that can penetrate deep enough to minimize the muscle contractions that cause lines.

The companies pushing creams that (they say) are “better than Botox”… can only say their products work like Botox becase their active ingredients act on the same protein as injectables —

in a petri dish.

Bottom line:

Wrinkle-relaxing creams are a waste of time and money.”

Ageless Elaine isn’t making this up.

Med Spa Information About Parabens

Dr. Bailey

Are You Concerned About Parabens?

Ageless Remedies SouthPark Med Spa blends science and beauty.

You don’t need to be afraid of parabens.
Why?
Because science has not yet proven parabens are harmful.

Here’s some science, from Dr. Cynthia Bailey’s Skin Care Blog.
She has practiced dermatology in California for over 20 years:

“Years of paraben usage, and numerous other scientific studies
over the past 50 or so years, have failed to show any causal adverse effects
from the use of parabens and UV exposure in humans.
(This is) a topic that I think is critically important, (so) I wanted to also
get the opinion of a skin product chemist that I greatly admire and this is what he said:

“The FDA has been continually calling for scientific papers
and studies regarding paraben safety
(especially since it is a food preservative)
and to date they have found no risk in using parabens.

They (parabens) are the principle preservative
used since World War II and even more compelling
is the fact that epidemiological studies
(studies on large groups of real people)
have not shown increased risk from usage (of parabens).
There is no definitive peer reviewed study
(this is the kind of study that is really strong
and respected by scientists and doctors)
relating paraben and UV combination risk in humans.”

Dr. Bailey adds: “I am always ‘keeping my ear to the ground’
about parabens for both my patients, myself and my family.
I personally use products with parabens.
My family, friends and patients use products with parabens.
I’m super heath conscious and want to make sure
that none of us jeopardize our health
doing something risky that can be avoided…
I believe that it’s always important to ‘follow our gut’
in these situations because science can be wrong,
moves slowly and peace of mind is important.

“My personal conclusion… is that parabens
are better than the alternatives.

“There are some natural preservatives,
but products made with them don’t last long
once opened and are thus impractical for most of us.
They are also typically very expensive
because of their short shelf life.

“I’ve tried a number of naturally preserved
skin care products and I find that they go bad
and smell ‘off’ quickly.”

At our med spa, we, too, are super careful
about the products we choose to offer our clients.

Ageless Elaine wouldn’t have it any other way!

She Knows the Truth

Skin Care Myths or

Don’t Waste Your Money

Part II

“(The role of) a skin care professional has a large educational component that mandates remaining current in the field, as well as providing education on skin health to clients and patients…(We) are not selling hope in a jar, but rather providing realistic and truthful solutions to help deal with extrinsic and intrinsic aging.”

Here are 5 important facts from an article in Skin Inc.
by Carol and Rob Trow:

  1. Be careful how you wash your face. Overuse of scrubs can remove protective oils and contribute to aging.  Less is more, and a gentle cleanser and light moisturizer work well for most people.
  2. Packaging IS important — not for aesthetic reasons, but to protect the integrity of the ingredients. Don’t waste your money on clear or transparent containers.
  3. There is NO evident that the topical application of collagen or elastin can penetrate the dermis.
  4. If a product sounds too good to be true, the claims are probably false. Skin damage and signs of aging cannot be repaired quickly.
  5. Less is more when it comes to skin care products.  You should use only what you need, usually about a pea-sized dot.

I know that skin care products are expensive but I hope you
get an expert’s opinion about what is best FOR YOU.

Have you bought some products, even expensive ones,
and then been disappointed?

Acne Myths: The Truth (continued)

5 More Myths About Adult Acne

Acne is not something you take lightly.

“Clear up” your skin and lose
these misconceptions (pun intended).

Acne Myth 6: You can’t wear makeup if you have a breakout.

Some makeup can definitely exacerbate acne,
particularly thicker liquid foundations
that can clog pores and stage-type pancake makeup.
“But lighter, looser powder foundations,
like mineral powder, aren’t nearly as aggravating
to your skin,” Amy Derick, MD, FAAD,
a dermatologist in Great Barrington, Ill. says.
“Of course, people who have acne want to cover it,
and coverage is better with thicker liquids,
but you have to compromise.”

Acne Myth 7: Acne is just a cosmetic problem.

Acne can have lasting consequences
in how you feel about yourself –
and left untreated, or improperly managed,
it can leave permanent scars.

Acne Myth 8: You just have to wait and let acne go away with time.

There are many treatments now available for acne.
At Ageless Remedies SouthPark we can prescribe
the right products and treatment just for you.

Acne Myth 9: You can “clean up” a pimple by scrubbing at it.

That’s actually the worst thing you can do.
“People will spend hours trying to get goop
out of skin to heal the acne,”
Derick says. “But picking your skin
is the number one way of getting a scar.”

If you have a huge pimple and a big date tonight,
you can get a single injection from Dr. G.
that will reduce it. Don’t pick!

Acne Myth 10: If you’re an adult,
just go to the cosmetics counter
and get a good face cream or cleanser.

Oh dear.  I wish someone would explain this to me.
I (used to) love going to the department store
cosmetic counter, too.
Now I know better.
How can you trust your skin to sales people
when you have a real problem?

DON’T WASTE YOUR MONEY

You want to look your best.
But you hear and see soooo many advertisements.
My job is to tell you what is real
and what is not.

We are a Medical Spa.

Everything we do (and sell) is based on Science.

That’s why you get great results.

Here’s one misconception that drives me crazy…

MYTH: Natural and organic products are always better.

Buyer, beware!

Many natural and organic products
are not as they claim.
Plus, many times, active ingredients
have to be synthesized to be bioavailable and efficacious.
Synthetic compounds can actually be identical
to those found in nature and be more effective.

Natural vs. laboratory-processed
should not lead to an up or down decision
about whether a product is good or bad.
Not all chemicals are bad,
and not all natural or organic ingredients are good.

*** Please don’t shoot the messenger ***

I’m just telling you the truth.
